Symptoms of failure are usually water in the oil and vice versa - the M47 Diesel engine used in all Rover 75 / MG ZT models doesn't suffer with Head Gasket issues as a rule, so this item should be the first suspect when oil and water are mixing. 

This type of oil cooler was fitted to all Rover 75 / MG ZT Diesel (CDT and CDTi) models.
