This is the Genuine MG Rover VITON inlet manifold gasket - designed to improve strength of the gasket and prevent coolant leaks.

A leaking Inlet Manifold Gasket causes coolant loss in most circumstances, however when the seal fails completely the loss of coolant can cause either HGF or hydrolocking due to the water lost flowing into cylinder #1.
